Introduction
In this alternate timeline, events during the seven years war created a domino effect that resulted in the modern day balance of power being held by 2 french speaking nations: The Gallican Republic and The United Royal Provinces.
The actual socio-politic of that timeline are, of course, a bit more complex. Many former colonies and client states of both have managed to accumulate a measure of power and tend to have more influence in certain region that is often admited. The Batavian Republic, for a long time considered the junior partner of the Gallican Republic has been asserting itself in recent decades, refusing to blindly follow the policies of its larger neighbour.
Although this timeline is, by and large, not worst then ours, many problem plagues it. Monocentrism (a form of militant anarcho-capitalism) is still popular in some part of the world and some of its proponent are willing to use violence to achieve their ends. Their is also a growing sentiment in some oversea departments and provinces that the time has come to break the last few strings that still attach them to the metropolitan republics and kingdoms. Many hope that a peaceful solution will be found but who knows what the reaction will be on all part of the debate.
